Beginners Drugstore Makeup Kit

We've all been a beginner in the makeup field one time or another. I remember being a 7th grader that wore way too much eyeliner, was in a scene phase, and didn't know the difference between blush and bronzer. Those were very, very dark days. Lets pretend 2008 never even happened.

What I remember most about starting out my makeup collection, is how overwhelming it all was. I heard so much about different brands from beauty gurus online and took their opinion as my religion. Not much has changed, and I do value the opinion of the beauty guru's I watch! But being the young and naive soul I was, I went to MAC and bought items I thought I would need or like. Some of these were great purchases, but others could have had some more research put into them before committing. So, to help other youngsters starting out in the beauty world, I created a kit that I feel has everything a fresh face would need-and all from the drugstore!
oh what a beautiful photo its edited to perfection too lemme tell ya

1. L'Oreal True Match Powder
This powder has a light coverage with average staying power. I did had to reapply throughout the day, but otherwise its great for someone just starting out.

2. Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream (light-medium)
This BB cream is perfect for that fresh face look. This is my favourite when my skin is behaving, and I just need to even out my skin tone. This coverage is VERY light, but I do find it somewhat buildable. The perks of this BB cream is not only its moisturizer consistency, but also the SPF value. With an SPF of 15, I can see myself wearing this throughout the summer to different parties and BBQ's.

3. Hard Candy Glamoflage Concealer (medium)
If you have acne scars or other blemishes that you can't seem to cover, this stuff will do the trick. It claims to be heavy duty and definitely lives up to those high expectations. This is my favourite to wear with just some simple powder, but definitely works great layered underneath a BB cream. This is another product that I had borrowed off my sister a handful of times, so unfortunately I do not know the longevity of this product and its staying power.

4. Smart Source Brushes
I have owned this brushes for about a year, and they haven't seemed to fail me yet. Super soft, not much falling out hair, and some of my favourite brushes I own.

5. Cover Girl Blush (Peach Perfect)
I felt like this blush is perfect for a beginner because of its versatility. Not only does it come with an all over blush colour, but also a highlighter and a darker blush colour. The pigmentation is great on this pallet, and is amazing for everyday wear. Not to mention that it lasts all day.

6. Revlon Just Kissable Balm Stain (Darling)
Now, I'm sure you've had these things recommended to you by everyone and their grandmothers, but they're definitely worth the hype. Revlon has outdone themselves with this creamy, pigmented and long lasting chubby sticks. Reapplying these are a breeze and I find that I don't even need a mirror, because of how hard they are to mess up.
7.  Physicians Formula Bronzer
This bronzer works best with that 'tan and glowing' type of look. This wouldn't necessarily be the best bronzer to grab if considering to contour, but definitely perfect for a bronzy all over highlight.

8. L'Oreal Extra Intense Liquid Pencil Eyeliner (Black)
This eyeliner is perfect for beginners. I find the staying power is great, and gives off a beautiful pigmented black colour.

9.  Covergirl Clump Crusher Mascara
Not my favourite in the world. This mascara may be for you if you're looking for a great, voluminous  everyday look. It doesn't clump as much as some other mascaras I've tried, so it is good for layering. The main fault in this mascara in my opinion is that it is lacking in the lengthening department.

10. Wet & Wild Eyeshadows (Knock on Wood)
Anything that was needed to be said about these eyeshadows has already been uttered. To sum it up: they're amazing. Beautifully pigmented and amazingly price conscious.

11. Maybelline Expert Wear Eyeshadow (Nutmeg)
This eyeshadow is great for filling in my eyebrows. Although slightly too brown, I mix it with a black shadow to get the perfect colour. This eyeshadow is obviously interchangeable for eyebrows and lids, and works well for both.

12. Neutrogena Moisturizer
With an SPF of 30, this is great for being out and about in those summer months. I don't find this to be greasy on my skin, and I feel great knowing I have the protection my skin craves.

I hope this helps any lost beginners. Let me know if you get to try any of these products! xx
